We are very concerned for the environment and what we are leaving behind for our children. Every choice we make on the farm and with our products is made with the planet in mind.
What kind of packaging do you use?
We follow the 3Rs we were all taught in school. We reduce our packing to the least amount possible to get your products to you safely. We reuse packaging whenever possible. Any packaging that we do purchase is made from recycled materials and/or is fully recyclable.
In an effort to help rid the world of single use plastic we have opted out of using any. Our soaps are packaged using 100% recycled paper - and that is it. No bulky cardboard box or plastic shrink wrap. Our salts and steamers are bagged using plant based “plastic” - which is not plastic at all. Made from plants and fully sustainable, it is also fully compostable!
What is “plant based plastic”?
Our salts and steamers are packaged in Grounded’s bio-based compostable stand up pouches. They are made using renewable Plantcell technology. All components including zippers are made from plants and are fully biodegradable and compostable. They break down into healthy compost leaving no microplastics and are made from certified compostable materials. To find out more about Grounded check out their website here
Why bother boxing the soap?
We have considered selling our soap without any packaging. However, according to Health Canada we need to provide the details of the ingredients and where it is made. We switched from paper label to box in order to protect our soaps during shipping and while sitting on store shelves.
Where do your ingredients come from?
Whenever possible, we purchase our ingredients from local small businesses that are also considerate of where they get their ingredients from.
Is your farm environmentally friendly?
Our farm is our home. We live and play in the field, and so do our animals. We are using best farming practices to prevent any chemical spread or leaching and consult with professional agronomists about what to apply, in what quantities and when to optimize growing without a harmful toll on the environment.
We also optimize water usage with drip irrigation. Rather than using overhead/broadcast sprinklers that spread and waste water we apply water directly to each plant in a controlled and time released way.
